THE BREWERY

IMGP8718.JPG

"We pride ourselves on using locally grown, sustainable products like Alberta grown and malted barley (known as the best malting barley in the entire world!). We brew beers of many different styles for many tastes - light, dark, simple, complex, dry, sour, hoppy…you name it."

ABOUT THE BREWERY

Adjuncts - considered a “dirty” word in past years, adjuncts are a big part of many of our beers. We utilize corn and rice in a few of our lagers, as well as unmalted wheat and oats in hazy beers and rye grains in our farmhouse ale.

Fruit - if you have seen our beer lineup you may have noticed that we like to use fruit. Our fruit beers and sours typically contain 120 kg of fruit puree per 1000L of beer. You can be sure it is real fruit that you’re tasting!

Cider Juice - we recently have partnered with a juice producer / orchard in the Fraser Valley to produce high quality fermented juices. Fermented low and slow in stainless and then aged on oak spirals, our apple ciders and perry are complex, dry and delicious. A great option for anyone with gluten sensitivity.

Our main goal as a tourist destination brewery is to create unique and interesting flavours. Here is how we accomplish that :

Water - we use a reverse osmosis water system to remove mineral content and give us pure water to base all of our recipes from. We then add minerals back to the water during the mashing process, this makes up our "water profile" which is different for every beer we create. By playing with the ratios of sulfate and chloride in the water we can accentuate dryness, crispness, body and malt character.

Malt - we source much of our malt from small, local malt companies like Red Shed Malting (Penhold, AB) and Origin Malting (Strathmore, AB). Malt bills for both of our 2022 Canadian Brewing Award beer are made up of malt from both malt houses. On the flip side we also use European grown and malted barley for our lagers, depending on the style of lager. Our German-style Pilsner uses - you guessed it - German malt, German yeast and German hops.

ABOUT THE TASTING ROOM & PATIO

Our warm and inviting tasting room has a clean and modern vibe to it. In the summer months our guests utilize our spacious patio and green space connected to the wonderfully maintained Munchie Park right here in downtown Drumheller. Our space is perfect for hosting events, with an inside capacity of 42 and patio capacity of 75.

We have something for every taste with 14 taps filled with beer and cider options, as well we offer beer cocktails and non-alcoholic options too. We always have a large selection of offsales to go and will fill your growler with most of our options on tap. Come experience the cozy atmosphere for yourself!

MEET THE VALLEY BREWING FAMILY

Nick & Crystal Sereda

Nick is a 5th generation resident of the valley and Crystal is from a small farming community east of Drumheller. When Nick lost his job during the oil and gas decline they had to make a tough decision about uprooting their young family from their grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles - but instead they thought of ways to stay in the valley. Drumheller needed its own craft brewery and after 2 years of planning the building process began.

Drumheller has some of the best malt barley grown above the valley floor, a great community to run a small business in and with the influx of tourists from all over the world it makes the perfect combination to showcase the true beauty of the valley. The roller coaster ride has been both scary and exhilarating, but they wouldn’t change a thing to be partners in this ride with the Valley Brewing crew.

Ryan & Jenn Sisson

Both of Ryan and Jenn’s families have been local residents for generations. So when it was time to decide where to raise their family, Drumheller was the obvious choice. They have always enjoyed the feel of small town living and wanted their children to grow up with family.

When first approached about starting a brewery in their small town, Ryan and Jenn contest they did not have a lot of knowledge or understanding of the industry. After some thought and research they knew they had to be part of bringing such an exciting business to their hometown. They admit it has been a steep learning curve and crazy adventure that has left them with an absolute passion for craft beer. They could not be happier or more proud to be part of this venture.

A resident of Drumheller after graduating high school nearby from 2006 to 2014, Nick returned back to the valley in 2019 to get the beer flowing.

Nick has received over 25 brewing awards since beginning his career in professional brewing in 2017. Some of the awards included hardware from the Alberta Brewing Awards, the Canadian Brewing Awards, the Canadian International Brewing Awards and multiple People’s Choice awards at events across the province.

Since launching in 2019, Nick has brought home several awards for Valley including top prize at Last Best’s IPA Tap Takeover 2019/2020, Revival Brewcade’s Sour Tap Takeover 2022 and Canadian Brewing Awards in 2022 (Gold - European Amber to Dark Lager and Bronze - Belgian style Saison).
